Date Night Ideas (That Don't Involve Food)Tuesday, October 11, 2016
Sometimes those weeks show up out of the blue where it feels like Mark and I only see each other as we're brushing our teeth for bed. Days run into one another and weeks fly by and, even though we're living in the same house together, it feels like we hardly see one another. That's when we know it's time for an evening out, just the two of us.
The easiest solution is to go out to eat. It's the standard approach to date night and it works by design. When you're seated across from one another, you're basically guaranteed some face-to-face time. But you're also guaranteed to eat some not-so-healthy menu options (it's date night, after all) and way too much of it (knowing me). So we've had to get creative when it comes to spending time together without having the whole night revolve around food.
Here are a few ideas if you're in the market as well!
Watch the sunset from a mountain top. There's something incredibly peaceful about watching the sun go down from the top of a mountain. Back in the summer, we made it to the top of Bell Mountain just in time to see the most gorgeous sunset! The great part about that particular location is you can drive to the top of the mountain, so you don't have to hike back down in the dark. It's such a great way to be together and enjoy the scenery...plus, sunsets! What's more romantic than that?
Play card games. Mark and I love to pull out Skip-Bo or Phase10 after dinner and see who can hold the longest winning streak. I'm pretty sure I hold the title at the moment. ;)
Go to a concert. I keep the BandsInTown app on my phone so I can see what bands are hosting shows in Athens on any given night. I've found some really great musicians this way!
Head to the mountains. I can't tell you how many times we've just started driving to the mountains with no real purpose in mind other than to just get away. This is can easily turn into a full day adventure if you want. I queue up the playlist and Mark scouts out the curviest backroads to drive and, if we're lucky, we'll stumble upon some great antique stores or farm stands along the way.
Rent a car and take a drive. Nothing takes date night (or a date day) to the next level like a new car! Turo lets you rent cars near you for any occasion, a Jeep for the mountain trips or a fancy Tesla for a night on the town. They also have an app so you can scout out the perfect ride no matter where you are and, in most cases, the car owner will deliver it right to you!
Take a walk downtown. Athens has such a great little downtown area that we don't visit nearly enough! Taking a walk across the UGA campus or along the downtown sidewalks is a great way to spend some time together and sneak in some exercise at the same time! :)
What are some of your favorite date night experiences that are more than just dinner out? I'd love to hear.
