Fort MatanzasThursday, July 30, 2015
We took a quick trip to Fort Matanzas while in Florida recently. A small ferry takes you from the mainland onto Rattlesnake Island where the fort is built. Don't let the name of the island or the fort (it translates to slaughter) turn you off. It was actually a pretty neat place to visit! It's crazy to think that something that was built in the 1700s is still standing today. Can you imagine having to live inside those walls?
A storm was rolling in right when we boarded the ferry so our trip was cut short, but it actually worked out perfectly. We were able to take a quick walk around the fort before boarding the ferry again. I'm all about history lessons that are short and sweet. :) If nothing else, the boat ride was perfect for a hot and humid evening.
