While we were in Georgia last week, we spent a few hours on the Atlanta BeltLine. I was most definitely wearing the wrong shoes for a two mile walk that day, but in spite of the blisters, we had a really great time. Mark and I rode bikes along this part of the Beltline about three years ago when they were just starting to build out the concept, so it was really cool to see a somewhat finished result last weekend.
The Atlanta Beltline is a walkway around the city of Atlanta that is being built on an old railroad corridor. It's very similar to the High Line concept in New York City except it isn't elevated. A large part of the Beltline is still incomplete, but the portion we walked on — from Piedmont Park to Ponce City Market — is paved with artwork lining the trail. It was pretty packed that day due to the awesome weather, but it is still worth the trip. We stopped in Paris on Ponce for a quick break and to rest my blistered feet. They have a BeltLine Relief Station with refreshments, bathrooms, and all the antique browsing your heart desires!
You can find all sorts of cool info about the project on their website, but I would suggest checking out their Instagram. It's cool to watch the trail's progress around the city — even from a different state!
